NEW GUIDELINE WILL SPREAD NOISY VISITORS?

City of Edinburgh Council's Planning Committee seeks views on changing residential properties into guest houses, private day nurseries, and home-based businesses.

They've issued a draft guideline which can be viewed at www.edinburgh.gov.uk/planning.

One potentially controversial aspect of the proposals entails allowing new guesthouses to open anywhere in the city, not just on principal tourist routes. The thinning effect on communities may alarm some people, particularly those whose children currently access adjacent back greens. Still more may worry about the possible disruptive effects of noisy weekend visitors.

Consultation on the draft guideline runs from 2 March to 13 April. Emails should be sent to rachel.gillen@edinburgh.gov.uk. Letters should be sent to Rachel Gillen, City Development, City of Edinburgh Council, Level G.1, Waverley Court, 4 East Market St, Edinburgh EH8 8BG.

All responses should arrive by 13 April.
