Careless whiskers

For those readers with an interest in bearded pillars of the co

mmunity (Issues 162, 177), here are three more fine examples. 

The first looks down from the George Hotel's front door, a Victorian addition to what were once three separate houses built in the 1780s.

The second – balding, distant, hard to photograph – adorns the facade of St Andrew and St George's Church, and dates from around 1787.

The third is, we think, a later Arts & Crafts-inspired example, and can be found above a bar in Rose St.
