The Osbourne Hotel at 51–9 York Place has been granted planning permission for alterations to the existing hotel, including an extension to the rear, building-up of the shop entrance, removal and replacement of a door canopy, and installation ofl new railings (as amended) (Ref. 10/02385/FUL; Breaking news 1.9.10). Developers undertook to preserve the few remaining original features inside, including a 'very interesting' cupola with plaster dome and frieze. Elevations 15A and 16A show considerable refurbishment of exterior stone and ironwork, and the removal of the basement Chicken Cottage frontage on York Place and its ventilation ducting to the rear.

Planning permission has been granted to convert 11 Bellevue Crescent into 3 flats (Ref. 10/02475/FUL; Breaking news 6.9.10). The property's continued use as a House in Multiple Occupation was considered by the owner to be impossible since the insurer's demands to install improved security measures (e.g. a sprinkler system) would have been 'very intrusive and unsuitable' for a Grade A-listed building.

------------------

Planning permission has been granted to convert the former bakery at 30 Canonmills into a retail unit, and substantially rearrange a first floor flat (Ref. 10/01908/FUL; Issue 185).

-----------------

Planning permission is sought to convert the Dolce e Salato sandwich shop at 150 Dundas Street into a Class 3 tea room (Ref. 10/02979/FUL). To make this possible, a full ventilation extract canopy and commercial oven are proposed in addition to the existing reheat and microwave facilitaties. Clever reorganisation of the servery area would provide space for 16 settings.

-----------------

Planning permission is sought to restore an original fanlight, repaint the front door, and extend working hours of a general office (Financial Services, Class 4) from 8 to 18 at Grade A-listed 41 Northumberland Street (Ref. 10/02952/FUL].
