PLANNING UPDATE – 10.10.11

A Mr and Mrs Fursman seek permission for a new 2-storey development at the back of 54 Albany Street (Ref. 11/03145/FUL).

The stone-built property – currently garages – would be lit by rooflights at the front and a dormer to the rear. Although constructed above the current garages to match the height of existing properties adjacent, the building would still occupy only the original footprint.

To Spurtle's untutored eye, it seems an improvement, although how newly overlooked neighbours may feel is not so clear.

The application by the Iona Pub Partnership (Ref. 11/02616/FUL)  to erect a security fence to the rear of 4 Picardy Place (see Issue 198; Breaking news, 15.8.11)  has been withdrawn.

A Council official visited the site on 17.08.11, and on 4 October the applicant withdrew the application by email. No reason appears online, and no connection between the two events has been made explicit.

Spurtle welcomes the – albeit probably temporary – survival of this basement bolt-hole for those down on their luck.

Permission for another of Openreach's lovely DSLM Telecommunications Broadband Cabinet has been granted, this time 6 metres north of 22 Broughton Street (Ref. 11/03155/FUL). No further details are available online at the moment.
