Today's evening spectacle was of course interesting to serious astronomers and general gawpers at the heavens alike.
But it was also a pleasingly social event.
Calton Hill was rammed: a chattering, laughing and marvelling super-spreader event enjoyed by all.
We witnessed locals lending eclipse-specs to passing strangers from a bench in Mansfield Place. Smiles all round.
