'The popular 50-piece community windbag return with a Fringe Fiesta, celebrating Summer. After last year's standing ovation No Strings Attached return with a funniest of musical delights. Blowing hot air, or not, this local group of worthy citizens excels in unique interpretations of modern-day classic and not so classic tunes. Always a musical adventure for the players and the audience alike, the annual Fringe concert is filled with joyful chaos and heartfelt flair.'

PARTIAL SOLAR ECLIPSE – THE VIEW FROM BELLEVUE

Today's evening spectacle was of course interesting to serious astronomers and general gawpers at the heavens alike.

But it was also a pleasingly social event.

Calton Hill was rammed: a chattering, laughing and marvelling super-spreader event enjoyed by all.

We witnessed locals lending eclipse-specs to passing strangers from a bench in Mansfield Place. Smiles all round.

This afternoon, work was under way to install this huge and intriguing sculpture on Calton Hill.

 

Emii Alrai’s Guardian will remain in place for the duration of the Edinburgh Art Festival (14–30 August). 

 

She describes it as exploring the ‘cultural power and contested political histories of archaeological ruins’. 

 

ISSUE 364 – OUT SOON!

As you read this, advance copies of the August Spurtle are already spreading across the Barony like convenient fires in prominent but problematic development sites.

 

Issue 364 smoulders with splits, questionable construction and closure. It continues with an appealing 25 per cent, is unamused by stale jokes, and shares fears for community cohesion and unwelcome biscuits.
