The new Community Cinema in the middle of Broughton continues this coming Friday with two screenings.

One is aimed at children and families in the afternoon, the other at adults in the evening.

Below, programmers Rory Bonass and James Mooney preview what’s in store.

The Goonies (1985), 114 mins, Certificate PG

The final film in our adventuring children series, this was always intended as a big finish.

WHO SAID WHAT AT THE HUSTINGS

Well over a hundred people filled Broughton St Mary’s Parish Church last night at a hustings for the Scottish Parliamentary election on 5 May.

On the podium were nine candidates for the Edinburgh Northern & Leith constituency plus a representative sample of those standing in the Lothian regional list. Solidarity had been invited but did not reply or attend.

There were no incumbents on view, either because their parties were already represented here, or – in the case of Malcolm Chisholm – they had stood down.

DAVID STERRATT, CHAIR OF DRUMMOND CHS PARENT COUNCIL, INVESTIGATES

Thankfully, Drummond S4–S6s returned at 9.30am today and an announcement about arrangements for S1s–S3s will follow soon.

Clearly, the school closure has disrupted pupils – especially those with exams in 3 weeks – but I appreciate the hard work of the school’s headteacher, management, Council staff, Edinburgh Schools Partnership and Amey in getting the school open again, not to mention the help offered by other schools and the University.

TIME TO ADD A LITTLE LOVE

The planning permission granted to Underbelly Ltd in 2014 (Ref. 14/03914/FUL) had as a condition that the company should restore St Andrew Square Garden within three months of the removal of temporary structures associated with its Christmas and New Year events.

Our understanding is that the deadline passed yesterday. This was the scene this afternoon.

The Garden has not been fully restored.
