There's a strange phenomenon happening on the streets of Broughton. Pedestrians walk up to the traffic lights and they just stand there, motionless, in a mindless daze. They seem incapable of making that big step of pressing the button which would allow them to cross.

HIGH HOPES FOR BRIGHT LIGHTS

Bruce Munro’s ‘Field of Light’ installation will be turned on at 5.00pm in St Andrew Square this evening.

Some 9,000 or 9,500 swaying glass balls on illuminated stalks – all of which change colour and promise visitors a free ‘immersive experience’ – will remain in place until 27 or 28 April. (Official sources differ.)

LOCKED-OUT SCOUTS WANT IN FROM THE COLD

Changes to Council property letting arrangements mean one of Broughton’s busiest and most vibrant youth groups is at risk of folding.

Broughton's 11th Scouts have met on East London Street for over 80 years. The 26 children and their leaders now try to gather from 7.00–9.00pm on Friday evenings in St Mary's RC Primary School.
