GAYFIELD STREET IMPRESSION

This Living Hand
This living hand, now warm and capable
Of earnest grasping, would, if it were cold
And in the icy silence of the tomb,
So haunt thy days and chill thy dreaming nights
That thou wouldst wish thine own heart dry of blood
So in my veins red life might stream again,
And thou be conscience-calmed – see here it is –
I hold it towards you.

URGENT! HAVE YOU SEEN MISSING MIKAEEL?

Submitted by Editor on

Police want the public’s help in finding 3-year-old Mikaeel Kular, who has gone missing from Ferry Gait Crescent in Drylaw.

Described as being of Asian appearance, he is around 3ft tall, has dark hair, and is possibly wearing a beige hooded jacket, blue jogging bottoms, nightware and brown shoes.

His mother put him to bed at around 9.00pm last night (Wednesday), but he was gone this morning. He is not in the house.

CLOSE SHAVES AND LATE INDICATORS

I don’t drive. I can drive but I don’t need to. I live in Broughton and work in the centre of town, which means I can walk to where I need to go.

The problem with being a pedestrian in this town is the cars. I’m finding it increasingly difficult to contain my pedestrian rage because the drivers treat us with so little respect. When we want to cross the road we become an inconvenience to them.

NEW LEASE OF LIFE FOR POWDERHALL GREENS?

Submitted by Editor on

Two of three bowling greens at Powderhall could be converted for use as ball courts/play areas and growing food says a new report to be considered by councillors tomorrow (see foot of page).

The proposal is part of a response to years of falling use at Council-owned bowling greens across Edinburgh.

The number of annual users at Powderhall has ebbed and flowed over the years, but in 2012 stood at 1,351 – 13 per cent down on the figure for 2007.
